Gary May, Managing Director

Gary is a highly experienced and highly qualified (M.Ed., Diploma in Community and Youth Studies and MSP (Managing Strategic Programmes)) professional with significant experience and expertise in developing innovative service models across Children’s, Education, Housing and Youth Services. With strong project, programme and change management experience, he has worked with leading consultancies (Fujitsu, Tribal Group and Place Group), Government departments, and a wide range of local authorities, and the 3rd sector, supporting them in the development and implementation of creative service delivery models and supporting appropriate business changes. Recent roles and assignments include Interim Head of Operations and Head of Change, Consultant – Adult Learning, Programme Manager, Chief Officer/Head of Connexions, Head of Organisational Development, and Principal Consultant (Tribal Group). Professional Accomplishments

Interim Head of Operations and Head of Change and Reorganisation for CAYSH (providing supported accommodation for young homeless across London), Gary was brought in to make the organisation more competitive and flexible whilst improving the quality of frontline delivery. He managed all services (over 100 staff), achieved 10% savings. He reshaped structure and roles setting up a strategic area model and business development capacity to address economic, political and legislative challenges in order to maximise income potential. He introduced KPi’s and a performance management structure. He programme managed the reorganisation and the Head office relocation. The organisation is now robust enough to diversify, grow and has since developed more business.

Gary drives innovation in Education. Bloodhound SSC (World Land speed record attempt car). As Interim Chief Education Officer for Bloodhound, Gary was brought in to innovate, provide structure and direction and improve business development opportunities. His education strategy enabled an increase in delivery of STEM Education programmes by 30% across primary, secondary and FE. He worked with Guinness World Records on a model rocket car record which is still running, with Top Trumps developing a land speed record pack and young scientist to develop 10 experiments in a back pack for schools.

LB of Croydon Borough – Interim Programme Manager/Head of Change he was brought in to save a failing Youth Crime reduction partnership programme inspired by the CEO of the council and the Chief Superintendent of Police. He led from start to finish the development and implementation of a £4m flagship Turnaround Centre services on time and in budget. He successfully merged under one roof a large number of local authority and third sector services which still work in partnership. The centre deals with over 1000 enquiries a month. Reoffending has reduced year on year. The centre is still the flagship and regularly receives VIP visits (i.e. most recently the Earl of Wessex, Boris Johnson).

DfE - Youth Policy Analyst/Adviser Gary was brought in with his extensive experience in the youth field. His expertise in this area was recognised by the government when he was brought in to advise on; the establishment of Connexions, he is an expert on youth participation and was brought in to manage on their behalf the first sitting of the United Kingdom Youth Parliament. He provided the model for sustainable funding which; still continues to see the majority of local authorities participating, supports a network of regional fora and the annual Youth Parliament sitting.
